A moat, fortifications, round corner towers, a drawbridge: the Muiderslot is a castle like the castles described in children’s books. Precisely this makes it worthwhile to visit. Fun fact: famous author P.C. Hooft lived in the castle in the Golden Age.
There’s so much to see and do at Muiderslot. You’ll learn who Floris V was, can stroll through the beautiful historic gardens or view paintings and user objects in the Ridderzaal. Do you prefer a bit more action? With the Tower and Knight Route, you can discover how the castle was defended with its tricky staircases and dead-end hallways. Of course, harnesses and swords are also on display, and children can dress up as noblewomen or knights.
Nice to know
The Muiderslot castle was built in 1285 by Dutch count Floris V as a real medieval water fortress. The castle played an important historical role in the water defense, as part of the Old and New Water Defense Line and later of the Defense Line of Amsterdam.
